Police in Portland, Oregon are examining reports that a motorist of a pickup was supposedly knocked unconscious while being attacked by protesters.
A variety of videos posted on social media appear to reveal what happened in the minutes before and after the alleged attack at the crossway of Southwest Taylor Street and Broadway on the night of Sunday, August 16.
In one clip, several people can be seen crowding around a white pikcup truck before one woman is taken on to the ground by another female.
Minutes later on, other protesters attack the car as it tries to repel before it ultimately handles to repel down the street. The vehicle is then said to have crashed as it drove down the road.
Throughout another clip, one guy– believed to be the motorist– is seen sitting on the ground while surrounded by protesters, including one male who hits him on the head after he mentions, “I wasn’t attempting to injure no one.”
After being dragged far from the guy on the ground by others, the second male then returns and is seen kicking the victim in the head.
A 3rd clip, which has been seen more than 4.4 million times on Twitter, reveals a male lying unconscious on the ground and bleeding heavily from the head.
The female who was seen being taken on to the ground in the previous clip is also in the video sobbing and asking, “Why is he bleeding?”
In a statement, police said they got a call at 10: 27 p.m. saying that protesters had “chased a white Ford 4×4, which has actually crashed” and that protesters had dragged the motorist out of the automobile.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious male. He was required to a nearby healthcare facility with non-life-threatening injuries.
” Portland Police became conscious of video’s circulating through social media, which show various events of what led up to an assault of the victim. The series of events was performed in various areas including several individuals,” the authorities declaration said.
Police said that victim may have been attempting to assist a transgender female who had a few of her things taken in the location where the attack against him occurred. Authorities are asking that individual to come forward to assist with the investigation.
According to Oregon Live, the victim was reported to have been seen consuming greatly previously in the evening, prior to driving the automobile.
In a statement, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt condemned the attack.
” The actions depicted in these videos are widely rejected as wrong– and the actions are prohibited,” Schmidt said. “Attacks will not be tolerated in our neighborhood.”
